Sumo Tournaments

 

Discover the thrilling world of sumo tournaments, a Japanese sport that fascinates onlookers with its displays of strength, ritual, and honor. There are six major annual sumo tournaments that take place in the country, largely hosted in the largest cities!

On the southern Japanese island of Kyushu, the Fukuoka Sumo Tourmanet takes place in November. In Osaka, the major tournament takes place in March. In Tokyo, there are three tournaments: one in January, May, and in September. And then in Nagoya, the major tournament takes place in July. 

The Japanese National Sport has a history dating back over 1,500 years, making it a cultural staple that is as much a performance art as it is a martial art, capturing the spirit of Japanese tradition and entertaining people both locally and all over the world.
