The 2025 World Expo in Osaka

Osaka was chosen to host the World Expo in 2025 by the member states of the Bureau International des Expositions on Friday, November 23, 2018.

The event is being organized for the second time by Japan's culinary capital. The six-month Osaka World Expo is slated to take place in 2025, from April 13 to October 13.

Millions of people from all over the world have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in this global event. These exhibitions are well known for their extended duration, which enables a wide range of participation.

In fact, the event is predicted to draw in about 28 million visitors this year, allured by the prospect of a discovery- and culture-rich experience.

The world will have the chance to unite in one location to examine the theme of "life" at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai. People from all over the world will be able to interact more easily thanks to the Expo, which will spark innovative projects and new human networks.

What to expect

The theme for the 2025 edition in Osaka is "Designing the society of the future and imagining our life of tomorrow". The secretary general of the Bureau stated: "The 2025 World Expo project in Osaka, based on the co-creation of a future society to respond to global challenges, responds to the concerns of the international community. After the unforgettable success of the World Expo in 1970, we are delighted to see a World Expo take shape and life in Osaka again."

Spread across 155.6 hectares, the main Expo 2025 site is situated on Yumeshima Island. The architect Sou Fujimoto created the master plan, which is divided into three sections:

  • Green World (parking, stage, stores, etc.)
  • Pavilion World (national, theme and corporate pavilions, etc.) surrounded by a large circular promenade
  • Water World

Inside the Pavilion Space, the pavilions are divided into three sub-themes:

  • Saving Lives
  • Empowering Lives
  • Connecting Lives

Forums and conferences

The World Expo is a platform for forums and conferences on a variety of topics, including:Artificial intelligence and ethics:

  • Discussions on the responsible development of AI.
  • Climate challenges: Innovative solutions to combat climate change.
  • City of the future: Sustainable urbanization and intelligent mobility.

Meeting influential people from around the world, as well as experts and innovators, will present an opportunity to discuss upcoming challenges in a global forum.

Practical advice

Steer clear of public holidays: Public holidays in Japan, like Golden Week (late April–early May), can draw large crowds. If you can, schedule your visit outside of these times to ensure a more seamless experience.

Make reservations in advance: To take advantage of discounted prices and ensure availability, especially during peak periods, reserve your tickets and lodging in advance.

Off-peak hours: For a more peaceful experience and to avoid rush hour, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

The expo presents an excellent opportunity to discover Kansai's largest city and adds more justification to visit Kyoto, a nearby city!

Types of tickets

The exposition is divided into 3 periods:

- Opening period: 2025, April 13th to 26th

- First half period: 2025, April 13th to July 18th

- The whole exposition period: 2025, April 13th to October 13th

(The first periods are cheaper).

When booking online, you will choose a date and the price will differ depending on the period the date you chose belongs to. (If you are not sure yet when you will visit, we recommand purchasing the "whole exposition" ticket type, so you do not have to decide now.)

But please remember that you need to register on the official website and book the date you will visit the exposition.

We strongly encourage you to register on the official website and book a date as soon as possible, to avoid any risk of not being able to book the desired date. If the number of visitors exceed a certain number on a specific day, it may not be possible to book this day.

On the official website, you will also be able to apply for a lotery to book which pavillions you want to visit.

The window to reserve a date on the official website starts 6 months before the date.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE EVENT IS STILL FAR IN THE FUTURE AND MANY DETAILS HAVE YET TO BE DECIDED BY THE OSAKA WORLD EXPO OFFICIALS.
