Just like popular dishes (sushi, ramen, bento, or gyoza), these Japanese pubs are an integral part of Japanese culinary culture, offering an authentic and friendly experience. Mainly open in the evening, they operate on the principle of sharing small plates, accompanied by drinks such as beer, nihonshu (sake), or shochu. It is a place where friends or colleagues gather to enjoy a meal that is both delicious and well-balanced, highlighting a wide variety of ingredients and flavors.
Book your Izakaya cooking class in Kyoto and cook like the locals
In this izakaya cooking workshop, you will learn to cook like the Japanese, discovering the secrets of home and neighborhood cuisine. Guided by an experienced chef, you will learn essential basics such as the preparation of dashi (Japanese broth) and the art of typical seasonings. The experience follows the same concept as an izakaya: dishes are prepared and tasted progressively, in a relaxed and interactive atmosphere.
Menu:
- Starters: Vinegar-marinated cucumber, grilled chicken and burdock balls
- Main Courses: Pumpkin velouté with white miso and soy milk, fried chicken fillet with salted plum and shiso, Japanese noodles with beef and dashi broth
- Dessert: Hojicha tea sorbet
At the end of the class, you will have the opportunity to taste all your creations, just like in a real izakaya. For vegetarian participants, alternatives are available upon request. If you have specific dietary preferences, particularly concerning dashi broth, we can adapt the recipe. This cooking class is a unique opportunity to dive into the Japanese culinary world and learn techniques you can easily reproduce at home.
